Caliber: Other
Up for auction is a Soviet SVT 40 chambered in 7.62x54R. The date of manufacture is 1940, making this a first year of production rifle. This iconic russian rifle was one of the very first semi auto rifles that the soviets issued in semi-large quantities. The rifle was originally intended to replace the mosin nagant as the standard issue rifle for the russian military, but was eventually passed off due to it being too costly to manufacture on such a large scale, making the few surviving examples of the SVT 40 and 38 quite rare. The rifle is exceptionally light for its size, being lighter than an M1 Garand despite being quite a bit longer. These rifles also are known to have a surprisingly light recoil for the 7.62x54R cartridge, being that the semi auto action absorbs most of the recoil. This particular example was made at the Izhevsk arsenal, and features a smooth action and crispy defined rifling with plenty of life left in it. The rifle sports an authentic 1941 dated russian scope, mounted on a repro scope mount, making this rifle into a sniper / DMR configuration, which was quite common during WW2. It also comes with a scope cover, and the Russian armory issues paperwork.
This rifle is an incredible relic of WW2 and a must have for any Russian arms collector.
